About PARK(ing) Day

You MUST read www.parkingday.org

PARK(ing) Day started in 2005 as a temporary art project to raise awareness about the lack of green spaces in San Francisco’s downtown. It’s based on the idea that feeding a parking meter is like “renting” a space. But instead of parking car, why not park something better! Every September, people around the world are now transforming ‘car parks’ to ‘people parks’. These PARKs are fun and visual symbols of communities wanting to improve urban quality.

PARK(ing) Day is all about
1) Calling attention to the importance of urban public spaces
2) Rethinking the way we use our streets
3) Creating diverse conversations about how we make sustainable cities.
