Talking Point (#30) European Public Space Awards

The Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona recognises the important links between public spaces and the culture of cities. They have a stunning design archive of public spaces and each year they award the European Prize for Public Space. The 2008 winner is London's "Barking Town Square" which is part of the Mayor's 100 public spaces programme (an initiative to create or upgrade 100 public spaces in London by 2012. Download the phase 3 pdf). Designed by 'Muf architecture and art' one of the cool features in Barking Square is 80m long arcade with 13 oversized candalabras suspended overhead.
