Talking Point (#10) Stormwater

Unless you are an engineer, you probably don't think twice about street kerbs.

Our streets aren't just for moving people and vehicles, they form part of a complex stormwater and drainage network. But is this the only way to deal with stormwater?

Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) came out of a growing recognition about the inter-relationship between urban development, stormwater and downstream ecosystems. WSUD design outcomes often go hand in hand with improved landscape and public space outcomes, and can include such things as wetlands, porous pavements, landscaped swale channels, water tanks and green roofs.
